Technique and Speed

Track and field training seems to have changed. The emphasis is exerted more on technique and on the activation of the nervous system. The big heavy weight-training is being side-stepped. Training now includes a large variety of repeated exercises that stimulate motor patterns as well as the speedy execution of technical gestures.

Technical drills thus constitute a major part of training, as well as a variety of plyometric exercises. Such training results in faster and leaner athletes. This trend is observed in sprinters, jumpers and throwers.
